Marilyn K. Speedie, Ph.D


Dr. Speedie is the Dean Emeritus of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. Before coming to the University as Dean and Professor of Pharmacy in 1996, Dr. Speedie spent 21 years on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy where she last served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Speedie received her B.S. in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy from Purdue University. She has been recognized with several teaching awards during her career and is author or coauthor of over 60 scientific articles in the areas of Biotechnology and Pharmacy Education. She served as President of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, is presently on the Board of Trustees of the United States Pharmacopoeia, and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Education.

Herve Sarteau


Herve Sarteau comes with over 25 years of experience spanning the fields of consulting, business development and investment management. Until recently, Herve served as Senior Partner for CarVal Investors, a leading Alternative Asset Management firm with over $10 billion under management, which he helped develop over the last 15 years, and where he held a range of executive responsibilities including global governance and strategy, as well as direct product line management across multiple geographies. He brings with him extensive portfolio management and transactional experience as well leadership in corporate and business strategy.

Herve has lived and managed businesses in the US, UK, France and Switzerland, having worked for Cargill, Hewlett Packard and Andersen Consulting in his early career. He also serves on the board of Zivix, a Minneapolis start-up, the global board of Opportunity International, a Microfinance organization, as well several of its banking affiliates. Herve holds both an MS in Engineering and MBA from INSEAD in France. Herve and wife Jennifer live in Arizona.

David Latzke


Dave Latzke is a Managing Director in Cherry Tree’s Investment Banking Practice. Cherry Tree is a financial advisory firm, established in 1980, offering investment banking, investment management and wealth management services. Prior to Cherry Tree, Dave spent 11 years with Arthur Andersen working with entrepreneurial private and public companies and was CFO at Fourth Shift and SoftBrands (public companies) for a combined 13 years.

Dave is a CPA and received his BA in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. In addition to his Managing Director role, he is SVP and CFO of Cherry Tree Acquisition Corp. and Znomics, Inc., both Cherry Tree affiliates. He is a current and past director and officer of various non-profit organizations, including A.C.E.S. (Athletes Committed to Educating Students), Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities, Social Venture Partners Minnesota and various organizations connected with Minnetonka High School.

Jason L.S. Birnboim


Jason is President and a Principal at Beaux Properties International, a Toronto-based real estate investment, development and finance company. Since 2002, Jason has focused primarily on the organization’s new acquisition and development activities in addition to overseeing all property and asset management for the company’s portfolio.

Prior to joining Beaux, Jason helped create and manage a private commercial mortgage fund called Morrison Financial Mortgage Corporation. Previously, Jason was a practicing attorney at the New York law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. Jason is admitted to bar in New York State and also holds a Masters of Laws from Fordham University and a Masters of Science in Real Estate from New York University. He serves on the Board of Directors of Daytrippers.



Anne deBruin Sample

Anne is the former SVP, Chief Human Resource Officer of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a faith-based, not-for-profit financial services organization helping approximately 2.6 million members achieve financial security and give back to their communities. As a member of the Senior Executive Team, Anne worked closely with the Board of Directors. She had responsibility for Human Resources, Business Insights and New Business Development.  

Anne earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Toledo. In her early career she held a variety of roles at Whirlpool, PepsiCo, Citibank and Walker Digital. Anne was the EVP of Human Resources for PepsiAmericas from 2001 to 2010. A publicly traded company, PepsiAmericas was the second-largest Pepsi bottler in the world, and employed over 25,000 people.


Brian Gustafson is an advisor to MyMeds and Managing Director of Investments for Tonkawa, the Carlson family office. His responsibilities include co-managing institutional investment portfolios with primary oversight of the private equity program. Previously he worked in equity research at Dain Rauscher Wessels and was a Peace Corps Volunteer with his wife, Angela, in the Dominican Republic.

Brian Gustafson has served on several for-profit and non-profit boards including the Board of Directors of Magnet 360 (acquired by Mindtree), GovDelivery (acquired by Internet Capital Group), MinuteClinic (acquired by CVS), Courage Foundation, the Minnesota Governor’s Council for Developmental Disabilities, and the Board of Advisors of Great Clips. He has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, MBA (University of Minnesota), and BA (Gustavus Adolphus College). He lives in Minneapolis and is surrounded by chaotic energy in the forms of his wife, four children, and the family dog.
